How are you?
Here is the new story that I was working on. I couldn’t upload it earlier because I realized that I had only done one draft and it was all over the place. So now it is ready to be read. So I hope you enjoy this one. It has nothing to do with the supernatural or aliens…it is surprisingly normal but, surreal.
This story was inspired by Dido’s song ‘Here With Me’.
I hope you enjoy it!
Here With Me
Have you ever loved someone so much that without them, life feels incomplete? All you want to do is treasure every living moment and grow old together?
What if…just what if…this was all an illusion waiting to crumble into millions of pieces in a blink of an eye?
Nothing but a black hole remains, a void that cannot be filled; it haunts you and taunts you.
What if tragedy awaits in the darkness ready to strike…itching to spread the darkness within the vessel it possesses?
What if, all this was a figment of our imagination?
My name is Keisha Bridge.
Welcome to my world…welcome to my story…
Justin, the man of my dreams and the one true love of my life. He is the one person that truly understands me. He accepted me for who I was. He taught me the joy of laughter and that smiling brightened up the day; he taught me what true happiness was. Before, I never knew what love, happiness and joy even meant.
Today it was our one year anniversary of being together. Justin took us to a fancy restaurant in the city, and might I add it was the best Italian restaurant. It was a candle lit dinner and the staff had appointed us a seat by the window so the world could gaze in, the place was decorated in an assortment of gorgeous flowers. A middle-aged man dressed in a posh suit was seated by a grand piano, his fingers moved with elegance as he played; he was positioned in the middle of the restaurant surrounded by all the guests. Today, Justin made me feel like a princess.
After our amazing dinner, we left the restaurant and headed over to the small car park that was in front of the restaurant, I pulled out the keys and pressed the button to see my lights flash and the alarm beep.
I entwined my arm around his and leaned my head on his arm, I was feeling rather exhausted. As we walked, I wasn’t paying any attention to my surroundings when I barged into someone. He wore a black hoodie that hid his face from the light, but from his build he was strong and lean.
I stopped and separated myself from Justin and my gaze followed the guy wearing the black hoodie, “Sorry, I didn’t see you.” I said, but he didn’t even acknowledge the fact that I was even there. He ended up sprinting towards the exit and was gone. Strange, I thought to myself.
When I turned back, I saw Justin sitting on the bonnet of the car. I moved towards him peeking over his shoulder at his phone, he was too busy updating his status on a social networking site! I sighed and went over to the driver’s door and got into the car. Justin on the other hand strolled to the passenger seat door whilst punching the keypad on his phone like a madman; replying back to a message or status comment. I pressed the horn which rang loudly through the car park and he swiftly entered the car.
“Sorry, your darling best friend has started bugging me about our special night out.” He leaned over and kissed my forehead, “Why is she pestering me for anyway? She should pester you instead!” He added.
“She is probably trying to get to know you better. Or, maybe she just wants to be your friend?” I replied as I drove out of the parking lot, “So where to now?” I asked him.
Justin connected his ipod to the car system and ended up blasting his music library. The song that came on first was from Flyleaf ‘All Around Me.’ It was our song, this tune played when we first met at a rock bar.
“Let’s go home. I’m pretty tired and tomorrow I have an urgent meeting with my publisher.” He breathed out as he got comfortable in the seat.
After ten minutes we were driving on a long stretch of road, we were the only people on this road. The night was quiet…to quiet. I looked up to the rear view mirror and from out of nowhere a car had come into view and was speeding up fast!
Suddenly the front of the other car rammed into the back of my car jerking us forward. Alarmed by the other driver’s actions, I sped up to gain some distance between me and the lunatic behind us. I looked at the rear view mirror once more, I perceived the driver behind me had picked up speed and within a few seconds the front of his car met head-on with the back-end of my car, once again.
“What is the matter with this guy?” I yelled as panic started to rise within us. Justin turned off the music. He lowered his window and signalled for the guy to drive past us, but he just accelerated faster.
All of a sudden my phone rang, it was an unknown caller. The unknown caller who has hassled me for weeks, scaring me for weeks. Every time they phoned all I heard was heavy breathing, laughing and saying ‘Nicola I’m coming to get you.’
I clutched the phone with a trembling hand and accepted the call, “Hello?” my voice was shaky.
“Hello Nicola, remember me, little bird? I’m the guy that you helped to put away and now I’m coming after you. I’m going to make sure that you suffer.” he laughed, “I’d like to see how you get out of this predicament, little bird…” The call was disconnected and I dropped the phone to the floor; lost in thought the fear bubbling up ready to consume me fully.
The car behind us went for my bumper again and I was officially frightened for both of our lives. Justin was also panic-stricken, but at the same time perplexed as to what freaked me out.
“Keisha what is going on?” He asked.
I couldn’t tell him anything. If I did it would expose me and put Justin in ‘their’ cross-hairs and this was something I won’t let happen. I couldn’t tell him who I really was, and everything Justin knows about me is a complete and utter lie! I started to cry.
Out of nowhere another car came from around the bend, proceeding directly for us at full speed. I tried the brakes, but the car didn’t decelerate. Trepidation claimed us; a positive outcome seemed bleak.
“Use the brakes!” Justin yelled.
“I am, but they aren’t working!” My foot repeatedly pressed the brake pedal down and no matter how many times I did this the car was still speeding, and deep down inside of me I had a feeling that we were both doomed!
I looked over at Justin and said, “Forgive me…” To avoid the head on collision I veered the car towards the left. I closed my eyes as soon as the car broke past the wooden barrier of the bridge and we took a great plunge into the dark river…
To be continued…
So what did you think? It will start making sense as the story continues.
